WGRI Accomplishments

2019-2020

 

Structural Issues to promote consistency for the guild:

·      Website completed role responsibilities and procedures for executive board and committee chairs.  Approved by executive board 

·      Newsletters from 1947 to present on Google Drive and linked to website completed

·      Secured minutes from 1947 to present to be scanned, placed on Google Drive and linked to website

 Membership:

·      10 new members this past year

·      3 returning members this past year

·      Attendance increased to 25-30 members per meeting

·      Created and printed a new WGRI brochure

 Community Service:

·      Continued relationship with Wickford Middle School and Alicia Skaggs

·      Volunteers from the guild held three classes in November and December with middle school after school art program on tapestry weaving with Joy Beeson and guild volunteers.

 Funding:

·      Amazon Smile and Halcyon Rewards Program added revenue to the general fund

·      Budget was established and met for the year

·      Purchased a new computer for guild programs

 Programs:

·      Conducted 6 programs, 2 cancelled due to coronavirus

·      3 Programs by guild members

·      Second Holiday Yankee Swap with Sally Rianhard with handwoven cards

·      Janet Cooper coordinated a visit to the The Art and Design of Spider Silk, at the Rhode Island School of Design, with 20 members attending. We arranged for a private tour, led by Curator Laurie Brewer.

·      Janet Cooper has put together great programs for the next year

 Award:

·      Established the Sally DuBois Weaving Award to honor her contributions to the WGRI

 NEWS 2019:

·      Largest attendance with 21 guild members and 3 new attendees

·      There were 11 entries by guild members in the shows and 5 awards, including 2 first place awards

·      Ginny Walsh and Judy Schafer were our NEWS Representatives and did an outstanding job coordinating us

·      Gretchen White coordinated the Faculty Exhibit for our guild with volunteers

·      Judy Schafer coordinated the WGRI Guild Exhibit

 WGRI Challenges:

·      Weaving Challenge from “Red Sings From Treetops:  A Year in Colors” by Joyce Sidman. Show and tell for this deferred to September due to cancellation of Annual Meeting

 WGRI 75th Celebration:

·      October 1, 2022 for the Celebration at the Narragansett Beach Club
