NEWS 2019  WGRI Summary

NEWS 2019 was held at Smith College in Northampton, MA on July 11 through 14.  There were almost three hundred attendees from across New England and also from Quebec, FL, NJ, IL, IND, PA, MD and SC!  Twenty-one members from WGRI registered to attend; three were first timers.

WGRI members submitted eleven (11) entries: four (4) for the Gallery Show and seven (7) for the Fashion Show.  Ginny Walsh collected, logged, labelled and delivered the entries for jury judging at NEWS.  The following are the entries in to the NEWS shows:

The eleven entries garnered five (5) Prizes.  They are:     

Gallery      Norma Smayda’s  1st  Place Wall Hanging (Castle Wall)

Fashion     Manon Pelletier    1st Place in Dress Category

                  Claire Wanebo      Best 1st Time entrant

                   Ginny Walsh​         2nd Place 8 Harness  Weave and

​​                       New Hampshire Weavers’ Guild Prize (Celebrating Late Members)

 and Rindy Hilton)

Linda Rynhard as well as serving as NEWS Board Recording Secretary served as Vendors Committee Chair.  The “Shop Till you Drop” on Friday Night was a special success.

Gretchen White organized the Faculty Show with expert help from Margaret Moone.  Judy Schaefer and Ginny Walsh assisted with the set up.

Judy Schaefer, NEWS Guild Rep, organized and mounted the WGRI Guild Table display based on WGRI Challenge  to weave celebrating the Beatles and/or the 1960’s.  Judy was also instrumental in scheduling the hours assigned to WGRI to “sit” at shows during the conference weekend as well as fulfilling many hours herself.

 

Next NEWS Trustees Meeting for NEWS 2021 is on September 28, 2019 at WEBS starting at 10:30.  The meeting will review the successes and shortfalls of NEWS 2019 as wells as discuss early Guild assignments.
