IN MEMORIAM TONY KORMOS

ANTONIA KORMOS 1-23-1923 TO 6-13-2024

Antonia (Tony) Rose Kormos, age 101, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Eddy Village Green. Tony was born in Budapest, Hungary on January 23, 1923. She was predeceased by her husband, Kalman Kormos in 1990. Tony and Kalman immigrated to the United States in 1951 two months ahead of the birth of their daughter Elizabeth.

She is survived by her children Elizabeth Kormos (Sander Bonvell), Katherina Wohlberdt, and Christiania von Berg. She is also survived by her grandchildren Anna, Geva, Julia, Tim, Erin, and Evan, and by 9 great grandchildren whom she loved to visit with on Facetime.

Tony was a three-time certified master weaver and member of four weavers’ guilds. She received many awards for her beautiful wall hangings, rugs, and fabrics. Her work is displayed in the Thousand Islands Art Center Handweaving Museum (tiartscenter.org) in Clayton, NY and has been published in several books and magazines. Recently an article “Tony Kormos: Master Weaver of Distinction” was published in the national weaver’s guild magazine Shuttle, Spindle & Dyepot. Tony was also known for her beautiful gardens.
